Please note that this internship will be taking place for at least 6 months starting from a date in Q2 2025 or later. Bank of Ireland – Frankfurt Office offers 6 month internships throughout the year, with some flexibility on timing in order to accommodate a timing that works with your schedule.

Leveraged Acquisition Finance

The Leveraged Acquisition Finance Unit was established in 1996 as a specialist for leveraged acquisition finance within the Business & Corporate segment to serve midcap clients across Western Europe and the US. The team is engaged in arranging, underwriting and participating in leveraged acquisition finance transactions in Ireland, the UK, Continental Europe and the US serving and supporting private equity clients in their buy-out transactions and maintains a loan portfolio of more than €6.0bn across 250 transactions. Local operations are established in London, Paris Frankfurt, Madrid and New York with a total of more than 100 professionals. In 2006, an Acquisition Finance Team was established in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Based on a successful track record of more than 16 years of serving clients in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the Frankfurt office continues to be one of the most active leveraged acquisition finance players within the financial institutions landscape.


With its 8 professionals based in Frankfurt, the team is supporting a broad spectrum of private equity clients and sponsor investors with financing solutions for leveraged buy-out transactions. The team is able to offer underwritten transactions as well as club deals and is offering products in the spectrum of senior loans, unitranche, 2nd lien and super senior financings.


Responsibilities

One of the best ways to prepare yourself for your finance career is through an internship in the demanding and vibrant environment of transaction-oriented banking at Bank of Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity to become an integral part of our leverage buy-out team in Frankfurt, gain meaningful, on-the-job experience, and get to know Bank of Ireland as a potential future employer.


Throughout your internship, you will get similar levels of exposure as a first-year Analyst, assisting in the preparation and assessment of potential financing opportunities as well as conducting market, industry, and company analyses. Furthermore, you will gain experience in financial modelling, valuation analyses, as well as industry-focused sector expertise, support the due diligence processes in support of the credit application process and work as part of a project team on live transactions.


Basic Qualification

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with fluency in both German and English
  • You must be in your penultimate or final year of a bachelor’s or master’s degree
  • You will have a good academic record, with preference for a degree in accounting, economics, or finance
  • You will have an understanding of financing principles, valuation theory, methodologies and applications
  • Strong quantitative, financial and analytical skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure with attention to detail
  • Good proficiency with MS Office suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)


Preferred Qualification

  • Previous experience in and/or interest in the sector
  • You must be motivated and have the ability to work cooperatively with all levels of staff in a rapidly changing, demanding, but ultimately rewarding environment
