The Organisation: In operation since 2004, Gateway is a community-based peer support project run by and for people with lived experience of mental health difficulties, for those living in the southside of Dublin. Our Vision is to ensure hope, dignity and wellness in an empowering and supportive community for people experiencing mental health issues. Our Mission is to develop a community based, member led resource for people with experience of enduring mental illness so as to enable people to maximise their opportunities for integration into social, cultural, educational and economic life and thereby achieve enhanced personal, social, health and economic gains. The Role: Gateway Mental Health Project are seeking to recruit a trustee with a background in HR management. The Board are particularly interested in individuals with recent and relevant experience/knowledge of supporting small community-based projects work to HR best practice and in developing policies and procedures to ensure Gateway is a ‘good employer’. Experience/Knowledge of the TUPE process is desirable. Charities Regulator’s General Duties of a Charity Trustee Comply with the Charity’s governing document Ensuring charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit Acting in the best interest of the charity Act with Reasonable Care and Skill Manage the assets of your charity By being a trustee of Gateway Mental Health Project, your responsibilities will include the following: Providing input to the strategic direction of the organisation and contributing with insight, oversight, and experience at board meetings and any additional commitments Policy development and implementation as required Provide advice and information to ensure full regulatory compliance. To help in the creation and reviewing of a risk register Essential/Desired Skills/Qualities required for these roles:
A deep appreciation and knowledge of the Not-For-Profit sector An understanding of and commitment to our mission and values Commitment to highest levels of corporate governance
Lived experience of Mental Health difficulties
(either as a family member of a person (preferable) OR An openness to learning from those with lived experience of mental health difficulties (especially members of Gateway).
Board Meetings: There will be 8 board meetings per year and possibly at least 4 sub-committee meetings a year. Meetings are held currently blended (online and some on location (Rathmines, Dublin 8). This may change to on-site meetings only.
