Task
St Lukes Hospital are looking to engage volunteers to help make patients’ hospital stays more comfortable.
Volunteer Befrienders are needed to visit patients and provide companionship.
Duties will include chatting, listening or reading to patients. Volunteers with knitting skills also welcome to come and knit with our patients.
This will all help to make the hospital experience less lonely and more pleasant for our patients.
Volunteer shifts will be 3 hours once per week. Full training will be provided including orientation of the hospital site as well as mandatory Elearning modules before volunteers commence in their role. All volunteers will be subject to a 2 month trial period.
As the role is based in a hospital setting, volunteers will also need to complete an Occupational Health Screening form in order to be eligible.
OVERSEAS POLICE CLEARANCE If you have resided in countries outside the Republic of Ireland for a period of 6 months or more, it will be mandatory for you to attain a Police Clearance Certificate from those countries stating that you have no convictions recorded against you while residing, or listing any convictions recorded against you.

Volunteers must:
- Be comfortable in a hospital environment
- Demonstrate commitment to the ethos of volunteering and values of St Lukes Hospital
- Have excellent people skills and be comfortable interacting with others
- Act in a professional courteous and polite manner
- Have good active listening skills
- Speak Fluent English
- Have the ability to maintain confidentiality of the patient and organizational information at all times
- Have a good level of mobility as walking throughout the hospital is required
- Have good literacy skills in order to complete the mandatory training modules
