Job Purpose
As a Trainee Accountant for the Irish Life Group, you will be a key member of the Finance Team that is responsible for delivering excellent support, expertise and high-quality information to our local and global leadership teams in a consistent way to avoid 'no-surprises'.
Reporting to the Finance Manager of the group finance costs team, Irish Life Group, you will act as a key member of the team responsible for our group services company, providing financial control, cost management while working closely with the Finance Business Partner for our Group Functions .
Key Accountabilities
- Assist the production of the financial performance and reporting for the group shared services company.
- Support the Finance Business Partner in managing the group shared services cost base including the production of detailed budgets, performance reporting and trend analysis to support local and group-wide requirements.
- Perform month end close activities including posting journals, reviewing accruals and prepayments, creating reports and completing balance sheet reconciliations.
- Working with the data analytics team, proactively provide commercial insights to enable effective decision making.Assist with providing timely and accurate financial and operating performance reports to key constituents including annual Budgets, intra-year forecasts, cyclical financial reporting, recharging sheets and any key communications or reports asked by constituents of the functions.
- Ensure balance sheet integrity through execution of controls, including intercompany transactions and accounts, and relevant reconciliations.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual statutory financial statements relating to the group services company.
- Support any operational requirements relating to the group functions.
- Implement and monitor adherence to financial reporting and control policies in accordance with company and group requirements and standard accounting practices.
- Assist with the development of new systems and procedures to meet the changing regulatory and business requirements and anticipated future needs of the business and/or stakeholders.
- Involved in the successful delivery of projects as required from time to time.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant risk and regulatory requirements; proactively highlight any risks so that mitigating actions can be taken.
You Will Also:
- Build relationships with centre and divisional colleagues to support our expense management processes and support the wider Group Finance team as needed.
- Be encouraged to seek continual development and improvement in accounting systems and processes.
Desired Knowledge / Experience / Skills
- Part qualified Accountant
- 1 year part qualification experience, ideally in a group reporting or business partnering role
- Experience with SAP an advantage
- Keen interest in finance systems and data analysis tools
- Ability and desire to deliver process improvement
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
