Life Sciences is a fast-growing part of our business. Optum has set up a new business unit, based in Ireland, to serve this segment. Our Technology team, the Optum Product Engineering Nexus (OPEN) are looking for a Senior UX Designer to help shape new products and services we will offer to the market via this new business unit.


We are looking for a Senior User Experience Designer with strong interests and capabilities in the design and development of engaging user experiences.


The ideal candidate will thrive in a work environment that requires strong problem-solving skills and independent self-direction, coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication. This individual excels at providing both highly analytical as well as highly creative ideas in a diverse cross functional team. The candidate will also have experience in a fast-paced and innovative environment. A solid understanding of contemporary user-centered research and design methodologies is important.

Careers with Optum offer flexible work arrangements and individuals who live and work in the Republic of Ireland will have the opportunity to split their monthly work hours between our Dublin or Letterkenny office and telecommuting from a home-based office.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Evangelize and execute the creative/UX strategy for Optum within the new solution/ product offerings developed by this new team
  • Guide team in all aspects of design delivery: strategic definition, concepting, prototyping, detailed UX/UI, research participation, documenting and testing of experience balancing user research/needs with business objectives/challenges
  • Procure and use data, including KPIs, market research, and testing methods, to identify ways to conceptualize and advance the user experience
  • Develop strong relationships and work in conjunction with own Engineering and Business team members, including internal and external product, brand marketing, design, development, and operational resources
  • Drive executive decision-making through facilitation and presentation of creative/UX strategies and concepts and trade-off analyses
  • Research and educate self and design team on new consumer behavior trends, technologies and development tools as needed
  • Support prototyping and new product/service development exercises with internal and external partners to advocate and evangelize the future consumer experience


Required Qualifications:

  • Exceptional design talents and a portfolio that evidences stylistic breadth that demonstrates sensitivity to diverse subject matter, design targets and cross-channel media (web / mobile / brand)
  • Proven relevant work experience in digital consumer product design field (incl. responsive web and mobile apps)
  • Proficiency in design tools (e.g. Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Axure, among others)
  • Ability to provide portfolio for review (preferably link to website)
  • Working knowledge of HTML, understanding how comps translate to code, and the ability to use prototyping tools to convey design intent
  • Experience developing prototypes and leading innovation exercises.
  • Ability to balance user-centered design skills, visual design sensibilities, data-driven influences and understanding of technical constraints in design thinking
  • Strong skills in the following areas: organizational savvy, ability to handle multiple programs, attention to detail, relationship-building, strong communication and presentation skills, high accountability


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Superb information design abilities, fastidious and efficient production and optimization habits, and impeccable problem-solving skills
  • Strong digital experience capability and command of usability and design principles, and digital channel / product best practices
  • Solid understanding of designing for Accessibility standards WCAG/508
  • Experience is developing and institutionalizing strategy and standards in large complex organizations
  • Experience in the consumer facing copywriting / editing field
  • Self-motivation, excellent communication, an open mind, the ability to thrive in multidisciplinary teams, and the skills to balance great design with short deadlines
  • Human-centered design proficiency
  • Exhibits a high degree of ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness and works well with ambiguity
  • Experience in using A / B and Multi-variate testing information and analytics to identify improvements and continually optimize based on data and defined success measures
  • Deep passion for digital products and channels, constantly keeping abreast of latest trends, best practices and competitive activity
