This is what you will do:


The Global Logistics function within Supply Chain manage and execute end-to-end Logistics processes for the shipment of products from our Manufacturing sites (internal and external) and distribution centers to the final delivery location.


The Alexion Global Logistics department is a dynamic and growing team and are now recruiting for a Senior Manager, Transportation.


In this role, you will maintain and develop clear operating procedures to ensure business scalability & agility to ensure we continuously meet the needs of patients. The position will also work closely with internal and external partners to lead this function. The successful candidate will seek to continuously improve performance and execution within our Global Logistics network ensuring that the network operates in accordance with the highest standards of compliance, ethics and integrity.


You will be responsible for:


  • Lead & manage logistics team activity across global locations against the GDP guidelines whilst ensuring uninterrupted product supply between manufacturing sites, finished product distribution centres including product sample shipments between sites.
  • Develop and manage the business relationship, engagement models and key performance indicators measures with global logistics partners through our Strategic Logistics Partner process
  • Drive the execution of the strategic roadmap for Global Logistics (GL) which ensures that there is a proactive approach in place to develop optimal & compliant solutions for patients
  • Develop, continuously improve, and implement standardised GL processes and procedures addressing compliance with operating procedures, laws and regulations applicable to Alexion Distribution activities
  • Lead RFQ’s, review and selection process for Logistics partners, setting the appropriate operating procedures and performance targets
  • Proactively identify changes in internal and business conditions which may impact upon the external contract supplier model and quickly ensure that required changes are put in place
  • Build strategic relationships with senior and executive leadership within our logistics partners and act as a key point of contact and escalation for both internal teams to resolve issues referred by internal or external partners
  • Subject matter expertise for Logistics related inspections
  • Participate in the implementation of risk management strategies for the company’s Global Supply Chain and work to eliminate inefficiencies and associated costs related to the operation and management of Alexion’s distribution network


You will need to have:


  • Demonstrated people management experience with expertise in Logistics & Distribution
  • Excellent knowledge of GxP & regulatory issues
  • Detail oriented with the ability to effectively lead and prioritise multiple competing activities
  • Strong leadership, presentation, and communication skills with proven ability to influence at executive level
  • Computer literate, with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Fluent English both written and oral is essential; proficiency in other languages is desirable.
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment. We would prefer for you to have:


  • 5 years’ working in Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Logistics or Operations role within an international environment
  • Past experience in leading third party performance including the effective leadership of expectations and communications across a broad customer base
  • Excellent written and verbal skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Degree in Business Management, Supply Chain/Logistics, or related field preferable.
