Job Summary
The Network Engineer is responsible for overseeing the backup and disaster recovery systems, as well as, the setup, maintenance and upgrades for hardware and software of network servers, systems maintenance, virtual server (VMWare) environment monitoring and troubleshooting, network security, and LAN/WAN analysis. This position is also responsible for ensuring courteous and professional network support is delivered to all employees and clients in all locations.
Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities)
- Responsible for the design, development, configuration, deployment, maintenance and support of networking equipment and systems
- Analyzes the performance of assigned systems and applications, making modifications to correct deficiencies
- Evaluates interrelationships between systems, identifies how changes may affect other systems and makes modifications where necessary
- Works with Department heads (end users) to gain an understanding of the business specifications (specs) for changes, modifications, or new systems to be implemented
- Conducts LAN/WAN analysis to ensure optimal performance of the network, including monthly utilization reports; resolves issues within the LAN/WAN environments
- Maintains diagrams and other documentation regarding the application(s) or system(s) functionality
- Manages and monitors anti-virus systems
- Provides hands on training, training materials and documentation for IT applications and/or equipment to employees when necessary and available
- Maintains and provides support on interconnectivity between US and International locations
- Upholds network security measures set by company policies; identifies additional measures when needed
- Sustains the integrity and 24/7 availability of all data residing on network servers through daily backup monitoring and reporting, and offsite tape/media rotation for all locations
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education And Other Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related technical discipline is required;
- Certification, formal training, experience or demonstrated competency may be evaluated and considered in lieu of the educational requirements
- Must have a valid driver’s license
Required Skills/Experience
- A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience within an enterprise network environment is required;
- Certification, formal training, education or demonstrated competency may be evaluated and considered in lieu of the experience requirements
- Must possess relevant technical skills/certifications to the assigned systems
- A minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience with backup/disaster recovery systems, Windows Operating Systems, DNS, DHCP and TCP/IP is required
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working with Virtual environments and enterprise level email systems is required
- Working knowledge of network topology and remote access device is required
- Must have the ability to write professional reports and other business correspondence
- Must have the ability to adapt from business to technical communication according to the audience
- Must have a strong ability to assess a situation quickly and help arrive at the best beneficial resolution for all parties involved
- Must have the ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position
- Must have the ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, with internal and external parties
- Must have the ability to handle and organize multiple projects and tight deadlines
- Must demonstrate a high degree of attention to quality, details, correctness and deadlines
- Must be available to work outside of regular business hours, when necessary
