We Elevate... Your Responsibilities - Attività Principali

Our innovations department

In our innovation department we explore how emerging technologies represent innovation opportunities for elevators, escalators, and the smart connected cities of the future. We keep an open eye in the latest advancements in AI, NLP, robotics, and IoT to propose ideas that have an impact for Schindler and for our customers.

We base our work on time-limited projects with a fast-prototyping mindset. Our dire need is to build pilots and proof of concepts to share internally or externally to get valuable early feedback. We build based on a digital ecosystem of internal and external innovations. We work closely with partners in an open-innovation setting.

For example, we prototyped indoor navigation systems, robot building integrations via API, AI-based people transit management systems, energy efficient elevator control, and the use of LLMs.

For this position you will work on a variety of activities to foster our innovation activities:

• Fast prototyping is at the core of this job: you will identify the core elements of a project and work on them to build it to life as soon as possible.
• Coach and lead team of students: we usually work with MSc thesis and internship students; you are expected to coach them and closely supervise their work with us.
• Propose new projects: it is essential to keep working with fresh ideas, and these should also come from you!
• Learn: this is a fast-changing world, and we expect you to keep pace by autonomously learning new skills, reading papers, and attending to conferences
• Interact with external partners: innovation happen in exchange; you will need to interface with external companies and start-ups to build synergies and find the needed competencies
• Scouting new technologies: keep an open eye, what is the next new technology that is relevant for us and for which we need to evaluate their advantages?
• Follow-ups: you finished a prototype, and you collected feedback. What’s next? You will actively contribute to decide what are the next step of our projects.
• Filing of intellectual properties (IP) patents: part of the job will also involve thinking about IP and discuss with our legal team to help them write them

To thrive in this position, we expect you to have the following strengths:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computational Science, Data Science, or similar
• Solid expertise in Software Engineering and object-oriented programming
• Full-stack development experience
• Familiar with data science and machine learning concepts
• Fast-prototyping and project-leading experience
