Job Summary

In the role of Commercial Finance Analyst, you are part of the EMEA Sales Finance team, reporting to the Area Finance Leader. You utilize strong commercial acumen, leadership, and financial competencies to support senior finance leaders by driving financial analysis to support financial planning, budgeting, decision making, and performance. Your excellent communication skills enable you to present analysis, results, recommendations, and influence decisions at all levels of the organization, including senior management.

You are supporting Area Finance leaders who are the primary finance business partner to the Area Sales Leaders, , and as such you act as a consultant and supporter, bringing insights and financial acumen and support the Finance leader in bringing first class Financial analysis to our Sales Leadership teams.

As the Commercial Finance Analyst, you support in achieving financial targets and key sales objectives, while at the same time setting the compliance tone with special focus on managing spend, concessions and discounts as well as preventing corruption and unethical sales.

In addition, a key part of the role is to provide objectiveness and stewardship to the company, acting as a representative of the Finance function and NetApp shareholders.

Job Requirements

P&L Management

  • Prepares analysis and commentary on variances and trends in the P&L, including Backlog, Revenue, Support waterfall, Cost of Goods Sold, Cloud Revenue, Operating Expenses, and headcount.
  • Supports in driving improved profitability and product mix, using company standards for Price/Mix/Volume analytics. This includes product mix, volume definitions, discounts, margins, and average selling price (ASP).
  • Remains informed on state of revenue reserves, by working with FCOE team in Bangalore on the details and to update Corporate HQ during quarter end to support company revenue guidance.
  • Responsible for follow-up on bookings performance from Sales and Sales Operations, highlighting risks and opportunities to meet current P&L forecast. Provide data on bookings forecast accuracy.
  • Supports margin analysis for large deals through preparation of robust and accurate Deal Economics.


Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Support the financial analysis activities for the Area(s), interprets root causes of financial results, investigates variances, and formulates remediation plans. Produces actionable insights to drive top-line revenue and optimize contribution margin.
  • Support the Area Finance Teams to drive Cloud revenue growth by providing insight into new customer revenue, customer expansion revenue, average customer size, customer renewals rates, activation rates and sales rep participation rates.
  • Leverages thorough understanding of NetApp solutions and technology, as well as drivers of shareholder return to ensure business leaders are presented with the most relevant data, insights, risks, and recommendations necessary to support strategy execution.
  • Support the effort to work with business partners to translate top-down targets to an accountable Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and to generate operational plans and strategy within the Area(s) Coordinates activities with FP&A, Sales Operations, and local Leaders. Ensures submission in line with defined timelines, definitions, and standards.
  • Responsible for the complete, accurate, and timely submission of the monthly Opex & Headcount forecast for respective cost centers in line with guidance. Prepares analysis and write analytical commentary, highlighting risks and opportunities to current forecast and to conduct analysis of variances to plan and forecast.
  • Provide detailed analysis and insight in spending of the Areas, identifying trends and saving potential.


Controls and Compliance

  • Monitors and supports field management’s responsibility to mitigate risk with a focus on ensuring ethical sales, spend management, and discounts in accordance with NetApp’s policies.
  • Partners with ICO, IA, Legal and local business leaders to ensure that company policies are adhered to and to ensure non-compliance is reported and acted upon
  • Drives improved discounts compliance, and manages exception requests for approval (e.g., POS Support, 3rd Party Products). Ensures approvals are in line with Internal approval matrix.
  • Provides oversight and support for headcount and operating expenses and ensures the business complies with NetApp internal policies, including hiring approvals, PO approvals, G&E and Travel.
  • Support the reporting and remediation of revenue exceptions by the Sales organization with the intent to remediate any violation in the same quarter as it was identified.

  • Responsible for identifying opportunities that require finance deal support by reviewing funnel as well as talking to regional- and district managers, sales representatives as well as peer supporting functions.
  • Collaborates with Business Desk to optimize deal economics and ensure high quality submissions for internal deal review requests:
  • Support Revenue Forecast Activities driven by the Corporate Revenue function, by monitoring Quarter-end Revenue conversion and providing carve information for deals pending.
  • Develop understanding and ensure insight in processes owned by Sales Operations e.g., Booking Forecast Prebuild tracking.
  • Promotes thought leadership in process improvement to scale and simplify tools, processes, procedures, and methodologies.
  • Promotes inclusion and diversity through open communication, acceptance of new people and ideas, and a supportive team environment.
  • Drives a collaborative, diverse and effective communicative way of working.
  • Supports Corporate Credit & Collections team on specific collection issues, leveraging knowledge of accounts, local Sales teams and local conditions.
  • Handle daily Finance related requests being raised by the filed e.g., Discount Violation requests, Sales Credit Requests.

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years in finance roles with progressively increasing levels of responsibility
  • Bachelor’s degree required in finance, accounting, economics, business or related field
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skill, including written and oral communication in English
  • Proficiency in analysis tools including Microsoft Excel and financial planning systems
  • Experience working with complex data sets and data analysis
