Position Description
As the trading arm of the largest Irish energy provider, ESB Trading is responsible for the commercial management of the largest portfolio of generation assets and customers of any Irish utility with significant positions in a range of power, commodity, and emissions markets. ESB Trading aims to optimise ESB’s traded portfolio by maximising its energy margin through a strategy based on integrated portfolio management.
The Back Office function comprising of three teams (Commodity Operations, SEM Operations and Complex Contracts) is responsible for:
- Managing all ESB energy trading related payments and receivables circa €5bn per annum
- Managing the associated external and internal communications and any exception resolution
- Providing an independent confirmation, monitoring, validation and recording function for energy trading
- Managing all ESB energy regulation trade reporting for EMIR and REMIT
- Managing the development of settlement and reporting solutions for on-boarding new counterparties, product types and bespoke contracts.
ESB Trading are currently looking for a highly motivated, energy analyst to work within the Complex Contracts team. This team is specifically responsible for settlement of Power Purchase Agreements, Tolling Agreements, renewable certificates, and other energy related contracts in the Irish and UK energy markets.
Key Responsibilities
This role within the Back Office team requires knowledge and understanding of end-to-end trading processes and systems, as well as the Irish and UK energy markets.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the team manager and will be involved in a range of activities including:
- Settlement of PPA’s, Tolling Agreements, Renewable Certificates and other trading activities
- On-boarding process for new products, contracts and counterparties.
- Delivery of process improvement initiatives for Back Office
Essential
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
The successful candidate should possess the following:
- 3 years relevant experience
- Excellent stakeholder management skills
- Strong analytical and reporting skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to respond to change within a fast-changing business environment
- Team player
- Proven ability to work on own initiative and deliver results to strict deadlines
Desirable
- SAP experience
- Understanding and knowledge of energy trading in Ireland and UK
Qualifications
Essential
- It is expected that the successful candidate will possess a recognised financial qualification either professional or third level or equivalent relevant experience.
Location
This position will be located in ESB Head Office, Dublin but may require travel to the Generation sites from time to time.

Reporting to
The successful candidate will report to the Complex Contracts Manager, Back Office, ESB Trading.
Salary
€37,500 - €44,500
