Everest Syndicate 2786 is a multi-line Lloyd’s syndicate managed by a third-party managing agency and is fully capitalised by Everest Reinsurance.

Reporting to the European CFO the Head of European Finance Operations will be responsible for oversight and development of all finance operational processes related to both insurance and non-insurance activities including general and insurance related accounts payable and accounts receivable as well as the billing process. The individual will apply knowledge of a high performing finance operations team to implement and maintain a scalable infrastructure. The individual will be expected to use a strategic lens to assist in driving expertise in operational efficiency and support the European CFO in the establishment of shared services center(s) where appropriate. The candidate will have a systems, data and process mindset as the initial focus will be on our key project of selecting and rolling out a new billing system. Proven experience within either a Finance Shared Services or Billing Operations at a mid to large company is strongly preferred.

Key responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with International and Divisional finance and IT teams, drive the implementation of the Billing project. This will include the determination of business requirements, participation in the RFP and organisation of related implementation and change management activities. Reconciliation of cash balances and application of amounts received/paid are at the forefront of the project
  • Establish business processes and a control framework for the scope of finance operations (FinOps) including non-technical and insurance related accounts receivable and payable (including intercompany)
  • Set operating standards for finance operations teams ensuring scalability and consistency
  • Build and maintain key cross-functional relationships that support FinOps processes, namely with the Operations and Underwriting teams, and define KPIs
  • Deliver timely reporting for the activities of the FinOps domain including billings and cash collection KPIs for Senior Management. Implement actions to improve overall DSO and other pertinent KPI's across the function
  • Design and implement a closing calendar for all areas within FinOps scope to meet local, divisional and group needs
  • Ensure timely preparation of accounts and bordereaux for insurance and coinsurance activities and recording of related insurance receivable or payable amounts
  • In accordance with financial close timetables, deliver requested data to actuarial teams and financial control and reporting teams to meet reserving and reporting requirements
  • Implement streamlined expense accounting processes to ensure optimal use of new ERP accounts payable module (Oracle)
  • Perform first line analysis of expenses and support management reporting and analyses prepared by FPA
  • With international tax team, ensure optimal process for expense allocations and related intercompany billing
  • With international treasury, ensure optimal processes for anticipating large receipts or disbursements and implement appropriate disbursement controls
  • With international treasury and financial controller, support congruency analyses for fx hedging strategy
  • Provide support to the European CFO on various projects as required

Skills and abilities:

  • BSC in Accounting, Finance or Business or equivalent
  • Proven finance/accounting experience within mid-large organisations
  • Relevant experience in financial shared service of a property and casualty insurance or reinsurance company is strongly preferred
  • Understanding of functions pertaining to insurance accounting
  • Previous experience with project and change management and leading teams with strong interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time and be able to multitask in an ever-changing environment
  • Excellent PC skills; must be proficient in Microsoft Excel (PivotTables & VLOOKUPS)
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and technical skills
  • Self-starter; capable of working both independently and within a team environment
  • Able to anticipate end to end business requirements on all major processes and its impacts
  • Strong Interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Skilled at leading, managing and developing people
