About Us

Balbriggan Meals on Wheels was founded in 1975. The kitchen was built in three months. All the work on the building was carried out by volunteer labor. The first meals were delivered on 1st January 1976. Some people who worked in the very first year are still with us today.

We provide meals to the most vulnerable people in our community; they are people who are referred to us by Public Health Nurses and Social Workers. It is for people who are ill, recovering from a serious illness, or for some reason are unable to provide meals for themselves.

Apart from cooking and delivering meals, we host a Dinner Club three mornings per week which provides an important social outlet to our clients.

Balbriggan Meals on Wheels is an essential voluntary service that requires all the support it can get. The organization, therefore, depends heavily on fundraising, donations, and volunteers.
