The National Rehabilitation University Hospital (NRH) provides Complex Specialist Rehabilitation services to patients who, because of an accident, illness, or injury, have acquired a physical or cognitive disability and require a specialist programme of rehabilitation. The NRH is a tertiary referral hospital, and the only hospital of its type in the country. We are accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). CARF is an independent international accreditation body.

Description

The National Rehabilitation University Hospital (NRH) is a national, specialist tertiary university hospital. NRH is part of the Ireland East Hospital Group and the Integrated Rehabilitation Pathway with St. Vincent’s University Hospital. NRH has close clinical links with the national spinal and neurosurgical centres at Mater and Beaumont Hospitals, Dublin, and accepts patients from hospitals and health care facilities throughout Ireland. NRH is a university hospital aligned with UCD, and it also has long-standing academic relationships with other third level institutions nationally. The Department of Psychology at NRH is established over 28 years providing a suite of clinical services including psychological assessment, neuropsychological assessment and intervention, psychotherapy, behavioural and other psychological and educational interventions for patients, families/carers, and health care professionals. The delivery of complex specialist rehabilitation services by the psychology team to adults and children is undertaken in six clinical programmes, Brain Injury Programme, Stroke Specialty Programme, Spinal Cord System of Care (SCSC), Prosthetic, Orthotic and Limb Absence Rehabilitation (POLAR), Paediatric and Family-centred Rehabilitation (PAEDS) and the Outpatient programme. This post offers candidates the opportunity to deliver the best psychological practice in neurorehabilitation with a team of clinical specialists.

The Department of Psychology is currently recruiting for the following post in the following programme and specialty:

1.0 WTE Senior Psychologist (Permanent) Adult Psychology/Neuropsychology (Brain Injury Programme)

At the time of application, the candidate must possess:

  • A recognised University Degree or Diploma obtained with first- or second-class honours in which Psychology was taken as a major subject and honours were obtained in that subject.
  • A recognised postgraduate professional psychological qualification appropriate to the area of professional psychology in which the position is designated. Candidates who have completed their post-graduate training outside the Republic of Ireland must ensure that their qualification is validated by the Department of Health and Children.
  • Minimum of five years satisfactory postgraduate experience in the area of professional psychology in the designated area. The five years’ experience must be comprised of no more than three years of postgraduate training and no less than two years (Whole Time Equivalent) as a staff grade psychologist.
  • The requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and clinical ability, for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
  • Experience of administering and interpreting neuropsychological batteries, undertaking clinical evaluations, providing recommendations, interventions, and clinical report-writing.
  • Experience of supervising, supporting, and managing staff, trainees and/or students.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with clinical professionals.
  • Proven leadership experience.
  • Experience of service development.
  • Research experience including publications and/or presentations at clinical and academic meetings.
  • Clear and effective communication skills.
  • For successful candidates who are interested in pursuing specialist training in neuropsychology, that they fulfil the requirements of the Division of Neuropsychology of the Psychological Society of Ireland.
