Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research Network Manager (Rare Disease Clinical Trial Network Research) within UCD School of Medicine.
A rare disease is one which affects less than 1 in 2000 individuals; because there are many such diseases it is estimated that there are 300,000 people living with a rare disease in Ireland. The Rare Disease Clinical Trial Network is an Irish, patient-oriented research network, based within the UCD Clinical Research Centre. The mission of the RDCTN.
The specific aims of the RDCTN are
Aim 1) to facilitate and support academic investigators from within and outside Ireland in conducting clinical
trials in rare diseases and to establish and augment partnerships with industry to increase rare disease trial
conduct in Ireland;
Aim 2) to provide infrastructural support by provision of regulatory documents and maintenance of a contact list of rare disease patients/stakeholders in Ireland linked to the European Reference Network sites;
Aim 3) to expand the involvement of patients, their families and members of the public in the design and conduct of trials in rare disease;
Aim 4) to educate and train researchers and investigators in rare disease trial conduct and explore/research methodological approaches to rare disease trials in order to optimise recruitment, retention and relevance of research outcomes to patient priorities.
The RDCTN manager will work within UCD Clinical Research Centre (UCD CRC), an academic-led, patient-focused facility for clinical translational research based at both St Vincent's University Hospitals and the Mater Misericordiae. This position is based at the St Vincent's University Hospital CRC site. It operates under a single integrated governance structure within the UCD School of Medicine & Medical Science. In addition to supporting a large portfolio of investigator- and industry-led clinical research projects, the UCD CRC is also a leader in the delivery of clinical research training. The UCD CRC is the focal point for engagement with industry (pharmaceutical companies, CROs, regulatory authorities) and has growing national and international collaborations.
Fixed salary: €70,000 per annum
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
