Engineering Team Lead

We're looking for an experienced engineer or technically orientated people manager for an exciting new role as Team Lead for Smartbox’s in-house product catalogue and search systems. This leadership position will see the right candidate navigate a mature team of software engineers through a roadmap of key business deliverables using a modern cloud-orientated tech stack.

As a team lead, your greatest assets will be steadfast organisation, an ability to critique and enrich functional & technical specifications and a razor sharp eye for value. There will also be the opportunity to contribute individually if desired to keep your development skills fresh.

Key Responsibilities

• Taking ownership of a high-value in-house system for a leading ecommerce company
• Developing and enforcing a delivery-orientated software development workflow
• Applying domain and technical knowledge to enrich functional/technical specifications
• Driving agile ceremonies (standups, refinements etc.)
• Capturing and utilizing KPIs such as lead time and change/failure rate
• Monitoring the health of the application using observability dashboards
• Liaising with business and other stakeholders
• Resolving and automating operational work

Essential competencies / skills:

• High level of self-organisation and an ability to organise others
• Proven experience as a strong and succinct communicator
• An ability to rapidly ingest and apply new domain knowledge
• A solid intuition as to when to compromise and when to push back
• Good technical knowledge of distributed systems

Good to Have

• Good understanding of Object-Oriented Programming
• Working experience with any of the following technologies: git, PHP, Symfony. Docker, Elastic Search
• Knowledge of HTTP protocol and REST API best practices.
• Good practicing knowledge of SQL
