Job Summary


Acts as subject matter expert to the regional engineering, design, construction and site operations job families. Performs the planning, system design, system implementation, system maintenance and support. Leads large scale projects and the roll out of engineering initiatives. Leads the development and implementation of policies and procedures. Effectively manages other internal and external teams, including the design engineering, site engineering, construction management, regional operations teams, onsite support vendors and consultants on projects, policies and procedures. Plans and directs day to day operations and strategic direction of either large, regional or even global programs or delivery of operations for a large, regional or even global Data Center portfolio. Significantly contributes to creating and maintaining best in class policies and procedures. Establishes and maintains supply chain relationships.


Responsibilities


Project Management


  • Leads and manages large, regional or even complex global programs or other design and engineering initiatives
  • Provides guidance, technical expertise, mentorship and project leadership in ensuring all programs or other design and engineering initiatives are meeting or exceeding company expectations


System Operation and Work Practices (including Capacity Planning)


  • Expert operating knowledge of engineering systems to include advanced diagnostics and repairs
  • Ability to apply knowledge of Equinix processes and procedures and industry standards to resolve non-routine issues
  • Works with vendors to identify and resolve hardware and software issues with vendors products which affect Equinix operations (i.e., works with equipment vendors to understand the impacts and consequential workarounds of an equipment setting change based on its hardware design and the site configurations of the equipment on a regional basis)
  • Evaluates and assures the safe working practices of others
  • Reviews and recommends work practice guidelines and policies
  • Interacts with other engineering, design and construction disciplines
  • Works with the capacity, site engineering and business teams to formulate long term regional strategies for managing power and cooling resources


Training


  • Develops training programs for other groups within Equinix
  • Participates in industry organizations and may influence industry opinions


Contract Administration


  • Leads in developing and executing effective contract administration procedures including generation, review, and monitoring of contracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and other pertinent documents and documentation


Leadership and Communications (including Vendor Mgmt.)


  • Leads in mentoring junior team members
  • Leads in directing all internal and external project team members
  • Directs external vendors per project or initiative such as general contractors, A&E design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.
  • Leads in establishing and maintaining high value relationships
  • Provides executive level communication including business requirements documents and advanced technical writing
  • Communicates Equinix operations decisions to customers and conducts post incident communications with customers
  • Predominantly peer-to-peer communication


Policy & Procedure Development and Adherence


  • Leads in creating and maintaining best in class policies and procedures
  • Develops policies and procedures with wide scope/large areas of impact
  • Owns global policy documents
  • Assures adherence to developed standards and policy through review of documentation, participation in commissioning activities, design summit and Data Center physicals
  • Develops high level reporting / summaries of policy compliance information
  • Develops KPIs, high level reporting, and aggregates data


Problem Solving


  • Consistently solves complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve (i.e., works with local ops teams in the region to prevent the re-occurrence of issues from incidents and implement cost effective solution including working with other departments to make process changes, if necessary)
  • Makes recommendations for system level enhancements to eliminate potential problems
  • Tests suitability of components or action plans for deployments


Technical Expertise


  • Has an expert level system knowledge
  • Is a subject matter expert to others in and outside of the group
  • Extensive knowledge of multiple facets of the relevant engineering discipline
  • Develops and executes projects (i.e., a single go-to person for specific topic/system, mentors internally and externally on the system/topic regionally, leads projects regionally pertaining to the subject matter and participate in discussions on a global level)
  • Reviews budget and scope, calculates savings pertaining to system improvements projects
  • Calculates savings
  • Leads internal and/or external engineering, design or construction related seminars/conferences


Qualifications


  • Proven years in electrical system design, operations, maintenance, and project planning with emphasis on datacenter or mission critical project delivery
  • Bachelor Degree

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:


  • San Francisco, CA / Bay Area: $160,000 to $273,000
  • California (Non-SF/Bay Area), Connecticut, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Washington state: $153,000 to $261,000
  • Colorado, Nevada, Rhode Island: $139,000 to $237,000


Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.


This position may be offered in other locations. Your recruiter can share more about the specific pay range for your preferred location during the hiring process.


The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
