About the post:

RCSI are seeking to appoint a Technical Services Engineer to join our Estate and Support Services Department. The role will be based primarily in St. Stephen’s Green with travel to other RCSI locations as required. The successful candidate will be joining the RCSI Estate and Support Services Department, a busy team which is responsible for the ongoing management, maintenance and operation of RCSI’s physical infrastructure and associated services such as project management, energy management, sustainability, health and safety, security, cleaning and catering.


Specifically, the requirements of the post are:

  • Working collaboratively with the Estates technical services team, wider Estates team and other stakeholders to complete daily assigned building service’s tasks and work orders.
  • Carrying out all duties in a safe and controlled manner, cognisant of the safety, health and wellbeing of yourself and others.
  • Maintaining and up-to-date record of completed tasks and work orders on RCSI’s CAFM platform.
  • Completion of planned preventative maintenance programs (PPM’s) as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
  • Completion of planned tests and checks on critical equipment such as, but not limited to, sprinkler systems, lab ventilation systems, gas detection systems, pressurised systems and chilled water systems (Note some systems are tested via external entities, in this instance attendance and oversight is required).
  • To provide attendances and support to the RCSI Estates Department as required under the direction of the line manager or manager in charge.
  • To be willing to undertake programmes of training and development as may be required to perform the duties of the role.
  • Representing the best interest of RCSI at all times.
  • Performing other ad-hoc duties as may be required
  • From time to time attendance will be required on site outside of normal hours, in the event of emergencies or to have cover at key events. As this is a salaried role time in lieu is provided for such occurrences.
  • The rostering of the role will typically include week on / week off of early start – early finish days (8.00am-4.00pm) and late start – late finish (10.00am – 6.00pm).



Typical Tasks/Duties will include but are not limited to the following examples;

  • Weekly inspections of plant and equipment such as boilers, pumps, chillers, pressurization vessels, AHU’s.
  • Intelligent lighting systems- programming and maintenance of Dali and Acutrace lighting systems.
  • Building Management Systems – Installation / modification of MCC panels and associated cabling, fault finding, replacing BMS controllers & installation of field equipment.
  • Fault finding, maintenance and statutory inspections of complex systems such as sprinkler systems and high and medium voltage electrical switchgear.
  • Fault finding of structured network cabling, patching of cables.
  • Support and oversight of third party suppliers for the provision of services for specialized plant and equipment.
  • Interrogation of BMS systems and identification of opportunities to reduce energy usage and increase operating efficiencies.
  • Supporting the work of the Estates Department in the ongoing decarbonisation of the RCSI Estate, aligned with RCSI’s commitment to achieving net zero carbon by 2050.
  • Ensuring the operation of business-critical equipment; maintaining regular maintenance checks and updates to the risk register and ensuring critical spares are kept in stock in the event of any failures.
  • Ensuring RCSI’s asset list is maintained and updated regularly on the RCSI CAFM platform
  • Ensuring PPM schedules are as per manufacturer’s recommendations / legislative requirements.
  • Ensuring site documentation and control manuals are maintained, reviewed and updated in accordance with best practice.
  • Supporting the Engineering Manager as required to review, interpret and implement new regulations applicable across the campus.
  • Collaboration and feedback (as required) with external consultants as required regarding design and commissioning of equipment for new installations.


Person Specification

Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

  • 3rd level qualification in engineering (mechanical / electrical) discipline and/or a recognised trade qualification with appropriate additional qualifications / experience


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Qualification in Facilities Management and/or Building Services
  • Membership of a relevant professional body


Experience:

Essential Experience:

  • Technical background with a minimum of 5 years PQE
  • Good understanding of IS10101, IS3217 and IS3218
  • Working knowledge of relevant H&S legislation and current best practices
  • Demonstrable experience in FM, Building Services, Estate Management or other related area
  • Experience of contractor / vendor management
  • ICT skills in Excel, Word and Cloud based CAFM systems.


Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in an educational and/or health service environment
  • Experience o/ training on BMS systems such as Cylon, Delta and Trend
  • Experience / training on MV systems
