Barilla G. & R. Fratelli is looking for a Food Biotech Innovation Scientist, within the Global Discovery Center Unit. The position will report to the Global Innovation Platforms Senior Manager and it will be based in our Headquarters in Parma. Fixed Term Contract offered.
Job Purpose
To strengthen our key competences in the biotech area, we are looking for a subject matter expert in the food biotechnology area that will translate biotech/fermentation research findings into business opportunities and will coordinate relevant projects from the design to the scale up phase.
Key Accountabilities
- Build and continuously develop an in-depth knowledge of new biotech solutions
- Keeping abreast of scientific developments in the field of fermentation and biotech, scouting, identifying and evaluating new biotech technologies from external sources, such as universities, startups, and other companies, that could benefit the company.
- Conducting literature and patent searches to identify areas of interest for the company and potential competitors.
- Monitor emerging trends in consumer behaviors and scout for emerging technologies (including cross fertilization from other NON-FOOD sectors).
- Build external and internal collaborations to translate the research findings into business opportunities.
- Building relationships with external partners and collaborating with them to develop new fermentation-based products or processes.
- Helping to establish collaborations, partnerships or acquisitions with startups and research centers to access new technology, science and expertise.
- Translate scientific and technical knowhow of the Fermentation Discovery platform into innovation project opportunities to be integrated in the current business, ensuring alignment with medium-long term category roadmaps.
- Manage global and cross-branded Innovation projects by defining goals, KPI’s, key milestones, working team, external network, outcome sharing, and all the relevant data required for the project management.
- Propose biotech solutions to be integrated in the company supply chain.
- Testing new solutions from design of experiment to data analysis and interpretation; and coordinate activities to scale-up solutions
- Evaluating the technical feasibility and commercial potential of new fermentation-based products and processes.
- Designing and conducting experiments to evaluate the performance of new fermentation strains, media, and process conditions.
- Analyzing and interpreting data from experiments and presenting findings in written reports and oral presentations to other members of the company.
- Coordinating and supporting internal R&D efforts to scale-up and commercialize new fermentation-based products and processes.
- Build relationships with external partners such as Research and Innovation centres, Universities, Startups, Suppliers, and collaborate with them to develop new fermentation-based products or processes.
- To work in close partnership with GRDQ functions and Long Term Marketing to share relevant research opportunities and align on trends and signals.
Requirements
- PhD or Master in Biotechnology/Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Bioengineering
- 1/2 years of R&D experience in Food/Biotech/Ingredient company or Research institute/University
- English Min. Level: C1
- Structured approach to problem-solving, analytical skills, excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to build good relationships both internally and externally
