Established researcher (Curator) for the mycological collection of ETH Zurich

80%-100%, Zurich, fixed-term


The mycological collection comprises around 1 million fungal specimens and, together with the vascular plant herbarium, is one of the scientific collections of ETH Zurich. Both collections are affiliated to the Chair of Ecological Plant Genetics of Prof Alex Widmer at the Department of Environmental Systems Science at ETH Zurich.

Job description

As a curator you will be responsible for all aspects of the development and maintenance of the mycological collection. You will work closely with the curator of the vascular plant collection and curators of other scientific collections. A technical assistant will support you in your tasks. Together with the vascular plant herbarium of ETH Zurich and the herbaria of the University of Zurich, the mycological collection forms the United Herbaria (Z+ZT).
In your internationally recognised scientific research, you will use the mycological collection in diverse and innovative ways to develop important contributions to a better understanding and protection of biodiversity. You will bring your excellent expertise to bear in teaching Bachelor's and Master's students with great commitment.
The position is currently limited to six years.

Profile

You have a university Master's degree in biology or environmental sciences, as well as a doctorate and several years of professional experience as a postdoctoral researcher or research assistant, as well as experience in the scientific use and supervision of natural history collections. You have sound expertise in mycology and a very good academic track record. You have teaching experience in a university environment and maintain regular contact and exchange with students, scientists and the interested public.
You are fluent in written and spoken German and English, work accurately and independently and have a strong intrinsic motivation for the diverse challenges in a university environment.
