HSE Project Manager for utility-scale BESS (all)

As an HSE Project Manager for BESS, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the implementation of health, safety, and environmental standards across BESS projects in Western Europe and the Nordics. Your main responsibilities



  • Own and coordinate HSE activities across all project phases, ensuring compliance & alignment with international and local safety standards, including battery technology-specific regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and refine Alpiq’s HSE protocols for HV-connected utility-scale BESS projects using industry best practices and lessons learned.
  • Assess contractor qualifications and review safety documentation, such as HSE, emergency response plans and risk assessments, to ensure alignment with Alpiq’s safety requirements
  • Conduct regular site visits to audit and ensure HSE compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Establish HSE project reporting systems to monitor safety metrics, its trends and drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead internal training sessions on electrical safety and construction site hazards to foster safety-awareness among team members, contractors and visitors.



Your profile



  • Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Recognized Health & Safety qualification preferably focused on electrical energy systems.
  • 5–10 years of HSE experience in HV-connected utility-scale installations (ideally including BESS).
  • Familiarity with international electrical system standards (IEC 62933 Series, UL 9540).
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Agile, self-motivated personality with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving safety issues.
  • Willingness to travel frequently across Western Europe and the Nordics.
  • Proficiency in English; plus knowledge of German and/or French.
