The Tax Analyst is an integral role with high visibility across Northland Power’s business, working closely with accounting, corporate finance, development and external advisors. In this role, you are a key contributor to the preparation, review and reporting of internal and external tax information. You will provide tax oversight to Northland’s portfolio of companies in Spain.

The Senior Tax Analyst - Spain will work closely with the local finance team in to oversee all ongoing projects in Spain. Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and assist tax advisors in Spain with the preparation of quarterly, annual tax provisions, public reporting, and Consolidated CIT Group Tax ;
  • Coordinate with regional tax service providers and local staff to monitor compliance, cash tax payments, VAT and withholding taxes, CIT, local taxes, stamp duties and facilitate timely filings;
  • Assisting with dealings with local tax authorities including tax authorities’ enquiries, tax audits and interactions.
  • Assist with local accounting and treasury functions on any tax related matters as needed;
  • Support development initiatives in Spain as required;
  • Work with external tax advisors and legal departments to maintain tax structures in Spain ;
  • Provide supporting documentation and respond to auditors as required;
  • Prepare the tax notes in the Annual Accounts
  • Oversee local transfer pricing analysis and documentation;
  • Oversee merger and acquisition activities in Spain from a tax perspective if required, including managing due diligence and advisors;
  • In partnership with local teams and the Corporate Finance Department, ensure Spanish taxes are accurately modeled, budgeted and forecasted;
  • Work with members of the Tax Department and other Northland departments to improve workflow, technologies, efficiencies, controls, documentation and processes.

Qualifications and experience:

  • A university degree in tax law or tax economics
  • 2+ years of relevant tax experience working for multi-national companies. Ideally with a background at one of the Big Four and/or in an operational setting e.g., complex utility companies (energy) or established global engineering firms, maritime/offshore companies or large industrial/ manufacturing corporations
  • Proven experience implementing and maintaining tax and financing structures
  • High level of written and spoken in both English and Spanish language is a prerequisite
  • Experience with M&A would be an asset
