Boeing is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Project Engineer to join our EASA Part 21J Design Organisation. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading cabin retrofit projects, ensuring they adhere to EASA regulations, industry standards, and Boeing's rigorous quality and safety requirements. This role requires a proven track record in engineering project management, cabin design expertise, and strong leadership capabilities.

This role is based in BGS EASA Modifications site in Frimley, Surrey with hybrid working options. Travel to other sites is expected with occasional international travel.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Project Leadership: Lead and manage cabin retrofit projects from inception to completion, ensuring project deliverables are achieved on schedule and within budget. Coordinate cross-functional teams, set project milestones, and monitor progress throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with EASA regulations, guidelines, and airworthiness requirements pertaining to cabin retrofit projects. Ensure that all modifications and upgrades comply with the latest industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Cabin Design Expertise: Leverage your deep knowledge of cabin design, interior systems, and configurations to develop innovative retrofit solutions that enhance passenger comfort, optimize space utilization, and meet customer expectations.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide expert technical guidance and direction to project teams and other stakeholders, including suppliers, contractors, and customers. Resolve engineering challenges and make sound decisions to address any issues that arise during the project.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and proactively develop mitigation plans to address them. Conduct risk assessments to ensure that projects are executed with minimal disruptions and adhere to safety standards.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with various departments within Boeing, including but not limited to engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and certification, to ensure seamless coordination and successful project execution.
  • Budget and Cost Control: Work closely with the finance and procurement teams to establish project budgets, monitor spending, and ensure cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and comprehensive project documentation, including progress reports, engineering changes, and certification documents. Provide regular updates to management and stakeholders on project status, risks, and achievements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiency gains, and enhanced project management practices. Foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Technical Supplier Management: Develop and maintain strong technical relationships with external suppliers and vendors involved in cabin retrofit projects. Collaborate closely with suppliers to ensure a clear understanding of engineering specifications, design requirements, and quality standards. Regularly communicate with suppliers to address technical queries, resolve engineering-related issues, and provide guidance on design improvements. Foster a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with suppliers to enhance project efficiency, quality, and delivery timelines. Continuously evaluate supplier performance and actively seek opportunities for supplier development and improvement.


Required Qualifications:


  • Degree from an accredited course of study, in aerospace or other safety critical engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience managing or leading teams in multi-disciplined matrix organisation.
  • 10+ years of experience working in an EASA Design Organisation (DOA) or similar Aerospace fields.


Required Skills/Experiences:


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in engineering project management within the aerospace industry, with a focus on cabin retrofit projects.
  • Knowledge of EASA Part 21J regulations and cabin airworthiness requirements.
  • Extensive expertise in cabin design, interior systems, and configurations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capability to make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Familiarity with aircraft certification processes and procedures.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software.
  • Prior experience with Boeing aircraft models is advantageous but not mandatory.
