Postdoctoral Research Fellow

The Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) at the University of Bern performs research in a range of disciplines relevant to public health (www.ispm.unibe.ch).
The Research Group on Community Health and Health Care Systems Research, (www.communityhealth.ch) headed by Prof. Dr. phil. Dipl-Pol. Annika Frahsa is located in the paradigm of participatory health research and applies social sciences theories and methods to study the contextual conditions of health in and with communities.
We are looking for a heghly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support on-going research in the research group and to set-up new projects that contribute to the scope of the group. Starting as soon as possible, you will join a team that focusses on (a) social and structural determinants of health in communities, (b) co-creation of knowledge and whole-of-society approaches, and (c) healthy environments and urban governance for health, including interventions for health-promoting, resilient, and active cities.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Work closely with the PI and the group on developing and executing novel participatory research projects on health-promoting neighbourhoods and urban governance for health equity
- Prepare competitive grant applications
- Present your research in peer-reviewed journals, (inter)national conferences, and scientific reports
- Contribute to supervision of PhD and master theses
- Support teaching in a limited number of classes per year (medical training, MPH, PhD program)
Required Skills And Experience
- Excellent doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, Dr. phil.) in social sciences, health promotion or related fields
- Proven experience in health promotion research, CBPR, or co-creation approaches
- Advanced skills in qualitative health research methods (e.g. thematic analysis, discourse analysis), ability to guide junior researchers in employing those methods, including software (preferably MaxQDA).
- An established track record of academic productivity (e.g. publications, professional presentations)
- Ability to think and act strategically and proactively, to communicate and collaborate with local, national and international partners from research, practice, and policy
- Excellent language skills in German and English essential
Desirable Skills And Experience
- Strong background in social sciences theory, concepts, and approaches
- Skills in mixed-method approaches, familiarity and experience with statistics for scientific analyses
- Experience in writing and managing grant applications, ideally in the Swiss context
- Experience in managing projects funded by third-party grants, including planning and prioritization of diverse tasks, attention to detail and dedication to task completion in multiple parallel projects
