FORS, the Swiss Centre of Expertise in the Social Sciences, implements large-scale national and international surveys, provides data and research information services to researchers and academic institutions, and conducts methodological and thematic research. FORS is responsible for acquiring, documenting, preserving, and disseminating high-quality quantitative and qualitative data and research information in accordance with national and international standards. We also promote these data and services and advocate for a research culture of data sharing and secondary analysis in the social sciences in Switzerland. FORS activities are co-financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation and its host institution, the University of Lausanne.

Job description For this position, we are seeking an experienced, creative, innovative, structured, and open-minded candidate with demonstrated software architecture knowledge, project management and people management skills. More specifically, your tasks will include:
- Management of the IT staff (planning and management of the work of the entire IT team, setting realistic goals and defining the processes to achieve them, setting realistic objectives and priorities for each IT group member, motivating the team and improving the communication within the team)
- Responsible for the delivery of all IT projects, covering the entire process, from project planning and initiation to implementation, quality assurance, launch and subsequent maintenance
- Support the technical leadership of experienced architects and software engineers within projects
- Active collaboration within the projects (requirements engineering, architecture and planning)
- Consult FORS management board on development and implementation of the IT strategy and vision
- Management and reporting on allocation of IT budget
- Participation in national and international projects
- Responsible for the maintenance of the overall FORS IT roadmap, covering infrastructure, software stack and services
- Responsible for the day-to-day IT operations
The ideal candidate
- MSc in software engineering (university of applied sciences or equivalent).
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering and development
- 5+ years of leadership experience and employee development
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to convey complex facts in a precise and easy to understand way
- Ability to adaptively communicate with engineers, architects, as well as with business and senior management
- Good knowledge and work experience in agile development methods (SCRUM)
- Very good self-organization skills
- High results orientation, reliability and flexibility
- Entrepreneurial mind-set
- Strong English (written and spoken), German and French are a plus
