Full Professorship for Otorhinolaryngology (ORL) and Head and Neck Surgery combined with
the position of Clinic Director and Chief Physician of the University Department for Otorhinolaryngology (ORL) and Head and Neck Surgery
to be filled as of 01 February 2026 or by agreement.
The University Department of ORL and Head and Neck Surgery at the Inselspital, the University Hospital of Bern and the University of Bern is a nationally and internationally renowned clinic in the field of clinical care and research. It offers the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services in this field, with outpatient and inpatient care. In the areas of audiology and phoniatrics, it has a service mandate for cochlear implantation as part of the regulation of the Highly Specialised Medicine in Switzerland. The clinic has a special tradition and focus in the fields of otology and neurootology and the hearing implant centre with audiology and phoniatrics. The clinic also offers excellent research opportunities in medical technology with the ARTORG Centre for Biomedical Engineering, the Hearing Research Laboratory of the University of Bern, the SITEM Insel with the Hearing and Balance Laboratory (public-private partnership). A joint vertigo centre is operated with the University Department of Neurology, the University Department of Ophthalmology and the Institute of Physiotherapy.
The future Director and Professor should be an internationally recognised clinician and researcher with a focus on otology and neurootology, with an outstanding scientific track record in both clinical and translational research, excellent scientific networking and successful acquisition of competitive third party funding.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as teamwork and collegiality, are required to further development existing collaborations with other University Hospital departments in the field of neuro-head, as well as aclose research collaboration with other existing research facilities at the University of Bern and the University of Applied Sciences.
We expect a strong commitment to teaching medical students and academic career development, as well as a commitment to promoting equal opportunities.
Proven management and leadership experience, the ability to integrate into existing structures and a high level of interpersonal and communication skills are important elements. Solid knowledge of German and French is also expected.
