Join Moderna’s Manufacturing Science and Technology (MST) team as a Sr. Engineer I, External DS MS&T (Chemistry), where you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the robust production of custom small molecules—lipids and nucleotides—at Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) across the USA and Europe. In this critical role, you’ll support our groundbreaking mRNA platform for both Clinical and Commercial cGMP Manufacturing. You will collaborate with internal teams and CMOs to navigate the complexities of technology transfer and provide technical support, ensuring flawless execution and adherence to Moderna’s high standards. This is a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to the future of medicine at Moderna.

Here’s What You’ll Do

Your key responsibilities will be:
Leading technology transfer activities for clinical and commercial products into CMOs.

Providing comprehensive technical support for cGMP manufacturing at CMOs, including authoring technology transfer documents and supporting change controls, deviations, and the closure of manufacturing investigations.

Analyzing manufacturing performance through data review and analyses, authoring manufacturing summary reports, and establishing and maintaining data repositories.

Leading cross-functional troubleshooting and operational improvements for manufacturing processes and equipment.

Authoring and executing protocols that support process characterization and equipment scale-up in cGMP Manufacturing.

Maintaining alignment with other global manufacturing sites through shared knowledge, manufacturing data, and collaborative problem-solving.

Your responsibilities will also include:
Managing project deliverables in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Collaborating effectively within a cross-functional matrix, contributing to shared goals and strategies.

Adapting to new technical challenges and opportunities as they arise.

We prioritize the platform: You will focus on the robustness of Moderna’s mRNA platform by ensuring reliable production standards across all CMO engagements, contributing directly to Moderna’s long-term impact in advancing mRNA technology.

Here’s What You’ll Need ( Basic Qualifications)

BS (8+ years), MS (6+ years) or PhD (2+) in Chemical Engineering or related scientific disciplines with direct industry experience within small molecule production.

Demonstrated experience with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in a regulated environment, ensuring compliance with quality and industry regulatory requirements.

This position is site-based, requiring you to be at Moderna’s site full-time. This position is not eligible for remote work.
