ICFO is a research center located in the Mediterranean Technology Park in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, and currently hosts 400+ people, including researchers, PhD students and staff personnel. Today, in its area of specialization and category, the institute is consistently ranked among the highest-quality research institutions worldwide, and a leading institution in our fields for training the next generation of masters students, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.

The ICFO Communications Unit has ambitious goals to communicate the frontier research activities and the societal impact of this research to the local and international communities. The need for a strong and strategically minded communications unit is of growing importance in order to meet the these goals. In addition, ICFO has been highly successful at obtaining competitive funding to carry out ambitious collaborative research projects. ICFO’s communications unit coordinates the communication and dissemination aspects of a number of these projects.

We are currently looking for a Science and Project Communication Officer, who will join the team with the mission of disseminating and communicating tasks for projects coordinated by ICFO, such as:

Support in proposal writing for new projects.

Writing, editing and translating of scientific news and press releases for websites and media on scientific publications or research activity carried out by ICFO’s research groups.

Design of web pages for projects coordinated by ICFO.

Monitoring and analysis of communication actions and their impact of various coordinated European projects at ICFO. Creation of documents and review reports.

Implementation of web analytic services and improvement of SEO positioning.

Design of graphic dissemination and promotional materials for ICFO’s and European projects.

Support in the creation of audiovisual materials related to the scientific activity of various research groups at the ICFO or coordinated European projects.

Creation of content for ICFO’s social media networks. Support in the design and creation of strategies and campaigns for social networks. Editing and management of the ICFO YouTube channel.

REQUIREMENTS

The appointee will preferably have:
A degree in physics, chemistry, biology or engineering highly valued.

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Communications or Journalism (degree or demonstrated experience) in a STEM research center.

Basic fluency in Adobe Creative Suite / multi-media editing programs.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within an international context, with individuals of differing cultural and educational backgrounds.

Excellent organizational skills.

Creative and “can do” attitude toward resolving unforeseen challenges.

Ability to manage independently European projects.

Knowledge in basic management of Wordpress siteshighly valued.

Meet deadlines and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction.

Native Spanish / Catalan with strong English (written and oral if possible proficiency level).

Proactive attitude

Ability to perform tasks independently, or as part of a team

Motivation to work hard and to improve and expand upon existing services

Self-confident and able to propose and manage new as well as support existing initiatives
