At the Institute of Technical Biocatalysis, we develop new biocatalytic technologies for a more sustainable future. We are a highly interdisciplinary, intercultural and globally networked team that values close collaboration with partners from industry and academia.

This project is part of an FNR research unit with an academic and industrial partner. The central aim is the "Scaling of enzymatic platform processes in Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NADES) for the production of biosurfactants and chiral fine chemicals". Deep eutectic solvents (DES) are considered as promising alternatives to conventional solvents to perform efficient biocatalytic reactions. In order to fundamentally evaluate the feasibility of a technical use of DES as reaction media in biocatalysis, lipase-catalyzed model reactions will be investigated. This investigation will include consideration of scale-up possibilities, implementation of inline analytics and downstream processing.

YOUR TASKS

  • Establishment of analytics and physicochemical characterization of deep eutectic solvents (DES)
  • Characterization of a lipase-catalyzed biotransformation in DES using sustainable resources
  • Development and scale-up of the biotransformation including downstream processing
  • Writing reports and scientific publications, applying for third-party funding and presenting at scientific conferences and congresses
  • Participation in teaching, supervision of research and final theses (project, Bachelor's and Master's theses)
