Overview:


Dublin Airport is currently implementing a €3bn capital investment programme to grow the capacity of the airport. A vacancy has arisen within the Infrastructure Department for a Industrial Engineering and Specialist Systems Lead who will work with a team of Airport Technology Subject Matter Experts for the design, planning and project management for the implementation of airport systems such as baggage handling systems, hold baggage screening systems, passenger security screening systems, AOS’s (Airport Operations Systems), and other airport systems involving low level controls and high-level controls or automation.


The Industrial Engineering and Specialist Systems Lead will be required to contribute their unique skills to accomplish multiple project tasks and will be required to be able to work effectively both independently and within a multi-disciplined team of specialists.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Working within the Infrastructure delivery teams, supporting the execution of projects from conception through to handover.
  • Acting as Design Lead and Airport Specialist Systems Engineer, reporting to the Senior Project Manager for Cabin and Hold Baggage Projects with the airport’s mechanical and electrical systems engineering team and airport system managers in developing project plans and strategies.
  • Acting as Design Lead, coordinate all design activities requirements gathering, submittal/design reviews, design workshops, BIM coordination and site walks to ensure airport requirements are being delivered.
  • Developing and managing all requirements & specifications for the specialist systems projects, including creating technical requirement documents as well as testing & commissioning. It is expected that systems development should follow the V-Model approach from developing and validating business and technical requirements to validating the outputs through the testing phase.
  • Provide leadership and vision to shape future specialist system and control infrastructure development.
  • Engaging team members by delegation of work both on a long term and on a day-to-day basis
  • Creatively solving problems to optimize resources, scheduling/ phasing, and budget.
  • Coaching team members on project execution and proposing technical solutions for complex problems.
  • Work closely & collaborate with various stakeholders throughout the Airport incl. IT, Security, Maintenance, Operations, Procurement, Consultants, Contractors & delivery teams across different disciplines (Architectural, Electrical & Mechanical, Civil & Structural, Planning).
  • Overseeing system functionality and technical quality of automated applications.
  • Overseeing the implementation of BIM360 as the CDE (common data environment) for all system projects to provide one platform that daa, consultants and each contractor will use to upload all technical documents / drawings / models, as well as manage all formal submittal reviews.
  • Identifying and implementing improvement initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and vision to shape future controls infrastructure development.
  • In consultation with stakeholders create a strategy and roadmap of controls architecture.
  • Work as port of project team, manage specification, design and development, delivery, and handover.
  • As part of the delivery team, work with operations/maintenance team to understand and improve processes and system delivery.
  • As part of the projects team, work with maintenance & procurement teams managing appropriate service contracts/external suppliers to ensure support is fit for purpose.
  • Coordinating and management of O&M records documentation (ISO 55001:2014) in the delivery of complex systems projects.


Knowledge, Skills & Experience:


  • Appropriate third level qualification in a controls system engineering, or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of systems and services.
  • Knowledge of project management life cycle from requirements gathering through design and implementation.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in design and project management in the delivery of complex process control systems projects in industrial automation controls design and commissioning.
  • Experience with Airport Technology Systems is highly desirable (e.g. – Baggage Handling Systems (BHS), Hold Baggage Screening, Passenger Security screening systems, EDS and EDS-C3, and AOS.
  • Experience of various specialist systems and controls systems including PLC low level control, high level control SCADA systems, IT Networks, Data Centres and Virtualisation (including a working knowledge of all relevant computer software tools).
  • A sound understanding of architectural and engineering processes.
  • Understanding of complex electrical/mechanical systems.
  • Experience of design coordination on integrated models and clash detection. Experience of BIM enabled projects would be an advantage.
  • Experience of simulation development and experience of creating and executing test cases.
  • Significant experience at site installation including integrated testing and commissioning of diverse specialist engineering systems.
  • Proficient in the use of the MS office suite, MS Project.
  • Experience in the use of BIM360 and other BIM applications would be an advantage.
  • Experience in the use of AutoCAD, and Revit 3D design modelling software would be an advantage.
