As a Pre-Construction team member, you will be a key part of EMEA Data Center Construction team, supporting the constructability and best practices in the standardization of the development and implementation of design standards across regional construction programs and will create and release high quality, consistent documentation for processes, standards and procedures.
Our goal is to find the candidate that has pre-construction knowledge coupled with extensive practical construction experience to drive standards throughout the implementation of constructability and design evaluation process, and set robust project design quality management mechanism which purpose is to evaluate all site-specific designs against AWS Building Design Standards and local regulatory codes, to achieve construction quality and safety excellence and the best operational performance.
We are looking for a leader who can own and raise the quality bar. In this role, you will learn and understand data centers’ design, construction and operations and will work with several internal and external teams to guide them through successful constructability review stages, ensuring all required steps and quality are being met before moving on with further milestones on the project. Furthermore, to keep the process up to date, the Design Constructability Leader will continuously observe and report on any improvements required within the process.
This opportunity combines the knowledge of construction engineering, project management and real estate development, validating internal design, understanding local building code issues, utilities, safety, sustainability and multi-disciplinary design management.
If you have experience driving global pre-construction standards, bid documents, specifications and general requirements to describe all the elements of a construction project, and working within a broad design and construction infrastructure environment, then this could be your role!

Key job responsibilities
As Design Constructability Leader, you will be responsible for engaging, standardizing and centralizing the review of the projects end to end, to support Real Estate, Design and Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Operation teams, in assessing projects’ design quality and compliance throughout its whole lifecycle, from real estate, design and construction, to operations, supporting the strategy of continuous improvement in safety, design, construction and operations.

  • You will work hand in hand with internal/external teams including real estate, design engineering, pre-construction, construction, finance, architects, engineers to ensure engagement and correct performance of the Constructability Review.
  • You will insist on the highest standards from self and others and drive accountability for results, reviewing and providing input into global standards strategic goals and compliance with local regulations.
  • You will govern the process, track and report goals, value engineering solutions and their implementation and Lessons Learnt at project level, addressing defects and risks identified during process audits.
  • You will collaborate with other teams and participate in training and development activities and explore ways to keep them engaged, collect their feedback and improve their process’ experience.
  • You will support in technical negotiations and evaluate bids/proposals participating in pricing reviews for scope inclusions/exclusions

A day in the life
Each day you will represent AWS in ensuring the on time and in budget execution of Amazon projects, while strategically improving its processes, costs, quality H&S, and sustainability performance.
You will be leading and mentoring large cross-functional teams as an expert technical and project management resource to complete construction projects and skillfully motivate and focus people of all levels to deliver.
You will drive significant communication across departments, to front line and executive level managers while serving as an authority on project issues.
You will leverage your experience and tools to understand where gaps exist in project plans and propose solutions.
You will be understanding and supporting negotiation of contracts with developers, contractors and consultants, and evaluate bids/proposals/claims with detail and accuracy, reporting key construction/commercial metrics, representing AWS’ interests.
You will act as the primary escalation point for the evaluation of the constructability of potential future projects and pre-development actions; owning and tracking issues to ensure that they are addressed, documented, and resolved using influence to manage team members.

About the team
Our Pre-Construction team is a multicultural, multinational group on the forefront of creating and delivering the most innovative products to our customers and are known for changing the face of cloud computing.
We support the development and implementation of design standards across regional construction programs and will create and release high quality, consistent documentation for processes, standards and procedures and serve as the primary liaison between Real Estate, Design Engineering, Construction and other critical partner teams between site selection and construction starts on site.
