Position Overview
The Electrical Engineer specializing in Electrostatic Precipitators (ESP) is responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing electrical systems related to ESPs. This role involves ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and compliance of ESPs within industrial applications such as power plants, cement factories, pulp and paper plants and other large-scale facilities that require emissions control.

Cement, Pulp & Paper, Steel, and Power Plants are often located in remote places, this mean that you will not be a sightseeing tourist but an integrated part of a globalized service department providing engineering and service specialists to all our regional branches around the world. You can look forward to 150 + annual travel days in Europe as well as all over the world, the remaining time, works will be at your home base.
As Electrical Engineer your home base will be the Aftermarket ESP Department in Madrid (Spain), reporting to the APC Aftermarket Division in Copenhagen (Denmark). From here you will be deployed to our sites all over the world, performing supervision, inspection and troubleshooting in connection with our revision and upgrading jobs on our installed APC equipment.
About the department
As part of the FLSmidth Air Pollution Control Aftermarket ESP Department in Madrid, you will join a team of 8 skilled colleagues consisting of electrical and mechanical engineers and product experts. We work closely with our Customers in Spain, Portugal and France, and execute services all over the world, providing the right FLSmidth solutions in terms of air pollution control. More specifically, we are technology leading within electrostatic precipitator (ESP) solutions
Key Responsibilities:
1) System Design and Implementación:
o Develop and oversee the design of electrical systems for new ESP installations.
o Collaborate with mechanical and process engineers to integrate electrical components seamlessly.
o Specify and select appropriate electrical components, including transformers, rectifiers, and controllers.
o Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
o Perform diagnostics to identify and resolve electrical issues within existing ESP systems.
o Develop and implement preventative maintenance protocols to minimize downtime.
o Respond to emergency repair needs and provide technical support to on-site teams.
2) Upgrades and Optimization:
o Assess existing ESP systems for potential upgrades to improve performance and energy efficiency.
o Implement and test software and hardware updates, including PLC programming and HMI interfaces.
o Ensure compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations through system improvements.
3) Documentation and Reporting:
o Prepare detailed documentation, including electrical schematics, test reports, and technical manuals.
o Maintain records of inspections, test results, and modifications for auditing and compliance purposes.
4) Collaboration and Training:
o Work closely with project managers and clients to understand project requirements and timelines.
o Provide training and guidance to junior engineers or maintenance personnel on ESP operation and safety procedures.
Your Qualifications
You hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent, and at least 3-5 years of industry experience with a focus on industrial applications or emissions control systems preferred.- As a true Electrical Service Engineer, you are more than willing to cross the world, you are able to understand local requirements and can combine your theoretical knowledge with hands-on problem solving, when things do not go according to plan.
- Industry experience related to the APC industry, valuable in mechanical equipment, High Voltage applications, dedicated controllers or PLCs would be preferable.
- You have good oral and excellent written communication skills. Naturally, you are proficient in Spanish and English. Other language skills, such as French or Portuguese, are an advantage but not essential.
- Also, you are well-founded on the Microsoft Office platform, AutoCAD as well as excellent understanding of Electrical and Mechanical documentation.
Your Skills:
Strong knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems.- Proficiency in using CAD software for electrical design.
- Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, and power electronics.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Certifications: Relevant professional certifications (e.g., EIT, PE) are a plus.
- Other Requirements: Willingness to travel for site assessments and installations, as needed.

Effective communication for cross-departmental collaboration.- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.

- Work Environment: This position may require a mix of office-based design work and field visits to industrial sites, often involving exposure to operational equipment and environmental conditions. Compliance with safety protocols is mandatory.
