For our subsidiary Carrier Innovation Technologies, we are looking for a Staff Engineer (m/f/d) Climate Solutions in the Kriens/Luzern region on a permanent basis and as soon as possible.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and deployment HVAC technologies that offer breakthrough advantages, e.g., X-caloric cooling and alternative cycles with natural refrigerants, independent dehumidification and heat pumps, by performing modeling and simulation, and experimental analysis.

  • Support and deliver techno-economic and risks analysis of alternatives to current HVAC&R technologies. - Understand and develop trade-off analysis between reliability, availability, service and maintenance models.

  • Collaborate closely with universities and research institutions in the areas of alternative HVAC&R technologies, and energy systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in science or engineering fields (e.g., mechanical engineering, HVAC&R/buildings engineering).

  • Proven ability to understand and evaluate HVAC&R, e.g., vapor-compression cycles, chillers and heat pumps, and/or transport refrigeration systems.

  • Experience in the calculation and modeling of thermodynamic energy conversion cycles.

  • Knowledge and experience in model verification and validation; statistical data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of industry experience or a PhD in a related field.

  • Experience in the HVAC industry, specifically in residential/commercial heating and cooling.

  • Experience with alternative cooling technologies, such as electrocaloric, elastocaloric, magnetocaloric, and indoor environmental quality, independent dehumidification.

  • Proficiency in model and simulations tools applicable for the building and HVAC industry (e.g. EnergyPlus, Modelica, Ansys/CFD analysis)

  • Proficiency in numerical methods, such as non-linear optimization, integration, and solving differential equations.

  • Knowledge of statistics, reliability and tecno-economic analysis

  • Knowledge of system engineering methodologies, design of experiments

  • Ability to create designs of experimental set-ups to validate modeling and simulation data, to direct experimental work, and to comprehend experimental setups and analyze data.

  • Work in psychrometric chamber set-ups

  • Ability to quickly understand and adapt to new technologies and processes.

  • Team oriented personality, capability to work well in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
