The Role
The Smart Energy Services business in ESB’s Customer Solutions has been formed to develop and deliver an integrated energy management solution for large energy users in the UK and Ireland. We are working with prestigious clients in the retail, hospitality, education, pharma and agribusiness sectors. In particular, within this core business area, the Engineering Team is tasked with leading the development of engineering solutions to enable our Customers to reduce their carbon footprint and implement ESB Net Zero strategy.

This role will report to the Engineering Manager and will be based in our Dublin office but will spend time working on client sites across other parts of Ireland and GB. Some international travel may be required from time to time.
Key Responsibilities
- Building up and leading a small team of electrical engineers delivering engineering design services and support for solar, batteries, heat pumps and other generation technologies, as well as EV chargers for SES clients.
- Prepare feasibility and front end engineering studies for new projects
- Reviewing, re-defining and ensuring all electrical design standards, policies and procedures are in line with ESB Net Zero Strategy
- Take full responsibility for the scoping of solar, battery and EV charger projects, define requirements and customer needs and assess the projects technical risks;
- Manage, from an engineering perspective, the projects above, from inception, specification, design reviews, procurement, validation, to post-installation design verification;
- Specify equipment; produce system schematics, layout drawings and materials requirement;
- Promote and lead the safety management culture across all activities by taking ownership and demonstrating visible commitment to safety and provide leadership in promoting a quality culture within the team and in SES;
- Work closely and offer technical support to the Sales departments and the Delivery department in SES;
- Manage workload effectively and adhere to deadlines in an environment where priorities can be shifting
- Set goals and prepare development plans for team members
- Attend client meetings as required to finalise and co-ordinate system capabilities and interfaces
- Carry out all duties so as to ensure efficiency and rigour in Engineering practices/output
- Participate fully in the creative and entrepreneurial atmosphere of a growing company
- Build and maintain strong relationships with other key internal & external stakeholders – industry, peer groups, etc.
- Represent ESB as an expert in the area of Solar, Battery and EV Charging systems and technologies
- Provide training to peers
- Other duties that may be required from time to time by the company
Essential Experience And Qualifications
- Minimum of 5-7 years' experience in a similar role
- Relevant 3rd level qualification or equivalent work experience
- Proven track record of electrical system design capability
- Experience of design working with industrial scale projects utilising technologies like solar, batteries, heat pumps, wind, EV chargers
- Strong technical background and understanding, capable of informed judgements, leading in and contributing to alternatives discussions and applying innovative solutions
- Excellent organisational, communication, interpersonal, report writing and problem solving skills
- Experienced in leading cross-functional initiatives and projects to solve problems and get the job done with a clear focus on engineering, project safety, time, quality and cost objectives
- Experience in providing on the job training and knowledge sharing with junior/new team members and peers
- Highly skilled in creating technical documentation, report writing and communication to varied audiences
- Ability to delegate and assign work to others to ensure on time completion of work in line with priorities
- Chartered Engineering status with a recognised engineering institution or demonstrable evidence of progress towards same.
- Full clean driving license and flexibility to travel
- Excellent broad ranging IT skills
Desirable
- Master’s degree in relevant/associated field
- A good understanding of ESB business, structure processes and commercial operating model.
- Understanding of ESB Group policies in all dealings with staff, customers, contractors, general public etc.
- Experience in risk management; the identification, assessment, mitigation, tracking, control and management of design and project risks.
- Excellent specific IT skills to include AutoCad, solar/batteries software
- Ability to manage own workload and multi task
- PSDP training and formal competency assessment
- Analytical, collaborative, team player
- 3+ years specific solar or battery detailed design experience including inverters, power quality and communication standards
- 3+ years of team management experience.

Salary
Up to €76,000 per annum
