The Position

The Institute of Human Biology (IHB) is a newly established research center in Basel, Switzerland, dedicated to advancing human biology through the use of human model systems for translational research. Our dynamic and interdisciplinary environment fosters collaboration among biologists, engineers, and data scientists, bridging the gap between academic and pharmaceutical research. Closely associated with Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED), we partner with leading academic institutions both locally and globally to address grand challenges with bold, innovative science.

We are excited to announce a search for Junior Group Leaders to establish independent, exploratory research programs at IHB. If you have recently completed a successful postdoctoral appointment and are eager to launch your career as a principal investigator, we encourage you to apply. These roles come with a highly competitive funding package to support your research.

As a Junior Group Leader, you will collaborate with world-class academic institutions such as ETH Zürich and EPFL, as well as global biopharma leaders. You will have access to a wide network of academic and industry experts, state-of-the-art platforms and technologies, and Roche’s core facilities. This collaborative environment will offer you the freedom to conduct innovative research, while shaping your research vision and making meaningful contributions to human biology.

Requirements:

We are looking for the most innovative scientific minds—exceptional individuals with a proven track record of groundbreaking research. We seek those who consistently push the boundaries of discovery, exhibit extraordinary leadership potential, and possess the passion and creativity to drive transformative advances in science. We are particularly interested in candidates who:

  • Are passionate about human model system research in areas such as Immunology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Metabolism, and Oncology.

  • Have a deep curiosity about the basic biology of health and disease and are driven to translate discoveries into transformative medicines through collaboration with pRED and other Roche scientists.

This position is fully funded for 5 years, supporting a group size of 4 members plus 1 PI.

Join us at IHB, where your passion and expertise will help shape the future of medicine and make a real difference in people's lives.
