The Max Weber Foundation (MWS) () operates eleven research institutes and several branch offices or project offices in European and non-European host countries, as well as a joint central office in Bonn. Worldwide, around 350 employees are employed, and numerous scholar-ship holders are supported.
Since 2017, the MWS has been a leading member of the EU-funded research infrastructure OPERAS (Open Scholarly Communication in the European Research Area for Social Sciences and Humanities) (). As such, the MWS is involved in the development of a research-driven infrastructure for the humanities and social sciences at both the European and national levels.

Research Officer (m/f/d) to work within the EU-funded research infrastructure OPERAS
Key Responsibilities:
For two EU projects within the context of OPERAS, we are seeking a highly experienced Research Officer in the field of scientific communication. The position starts January 1, 2025.
The LUMEN project continues the work on the multilingual discovery service GoTriple (). Specifically, it aims to provide exemplary solutions for the fields of mathe-matics, humanities and social sciences, earth system science, and molecular dynamics. These solu-tions are intended to redefine discovery capabilities at the level of the EOSC (European Open Science Cloud) () and provide further multidisciplinary incentives.
The CRAFT-OA project ) aims to establish Diamond Open Access as a mod-el for free publication offers, particularly for scientific journals. This includes technical components that are to be anchored in the European Research Area and corresponding user/infrastructure communities at the national level, creating a sustainable and research-driven publication infrastructure for Diamond Open Access.
For both projects, the MWS is seeking an individual who can independently manage and contribute in-novative ideas within the entire field of scientific communication and networking among project partici-pants, as part of a European team. The position for LUMEN is 50% and has a 3-year duration (2025-2027); you will collaborate with a colleague in the field of scientific communication. The position at CRAFT-OA is also limited to 50% and runs until the end of December 2025.
Both positions can be combined; however, they can also be filled separately depending on the applicant situation. Both positions are located within the MWS central office (Bonn) in the Department of Research Infrastructures, Libraries, and IT ().
- Lead the work package "Communication and Dissemination" in LUMEN and the task "Project PR and Dissemination" in CRAFT-OA, and participate in other working groups on related topics.
- Develop and implement the communication strategy for the projects.
- Ensure coordinated provision of all relevant information within both projects and connect with OPERAS.
- Organise scientific communication through various formats (e.g., project website, social media channels, mailing lists) to disseminate project results in the scientific community.
- Develop and provide communication materials for LUMEN and CRAFT-OA.
- Manage the project budget in your area of responsibility (in collaboration with an administrative colleague).
- Document the work in this project and be responsible for reporting from this area.
You will collaborate intensively with project partners from several European countries, which may in-clude occasional travel. Accordingly, you bring a strong openness to this form of scientific organisation-al work and actively shape the project processes. This includes the ability to cooperate with representa-tives of IT infrastructures (information sciences and libraries), as well as interdisciplinary cooperation beyond the humanities.
Profile:
Job Requirements
- Experience in project management of EU projects.
- A Master's degree in a field related to the humanities, social sciences, library science, or information science.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Proficiency in text processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs.
- Knowledge of a common CMS, preferably WordPress.
- Experience in handling social media (blogs, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn).
- Proficient English skills (project language) at level C1.
Additional qualifications
- Knowledge and experience in the methods and concepts of digital publishing.
- Relevant IT skills, such as in web technologies, X-technologies, and software architectures.
- Knowledge in the field of Open Science.
- German language skills at level B2.
Offer:
- The position is offered for a temporary contract of an initial period of 12 months full time and af-ter that 50% until the end of 2027 that can be potentially extended based on performances and available funding.
- We offer a salary up to pay grade 13 TVöD (Bund) if the requirements are met, as well as the standard additional benefits.
