Two Postdoc Positions in Experimental Quantum Engineering (EQE) Group
100%, Zurich, fixed-term
The Experimental Quantum Engineering (EQE) group at ETH Zurich and PSI seeks highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to work at the intersection of quantum optics and quantum information science. Led by Prof. Wenchao Xu, the EQE group focuses on harnessing the potential of quantum systems involving neutral atoms and their Rydberg states for advancing quantum science and quantum technology.
Project background
Our research group tackles fundamental challenges in quantum science while advancing quantum technologies through experimental platforms based on neutral atoms. By integrating quantum control and quantum optics techniques with neutral cold atoms and their highly-excited Rydberg states, we aim to engineer large-scale quantum many-body systems and pioneer innovative schemes to enhance controllability and connectivity.
Our objectives include:
- Demonstrating novel architectures for large-scale quantum processing, featuring reconfigurable local control, rapid non-demolition readout, and quantum error correction
- Developing a strong atom-light interface to establish quantum interconnects for modular quantum systems
- Investigating fundamental questions in quantum thermalization and many-body dynamics, pushing the boundaries of our understanding of complex quantum systems
Job description
We are currently seeking candidates for two postdoctoral positions to work on exciting research projects.
The first project focuses on demonstrating the unique advantages of using dual-type atom arrays for reconfigurable local quantum control, and rapid, non-demolition stabilizer readout. These features not only pave the way for fault-tolerant quantum computation but also opens new opportunities for exploring frontier topics in quantum information dynamics.
The second project is developing a novel approach to establish a deterministic quantum interface between stationary atomic qubits and flying optical photons, without the need for optical cavities. Our goal is to realize reconfigurable quantum optical links across remote atomic qubits in different atom arrays, a crucial step toward modular quantum computation.
