We are looking for a highly skilled Commis, based in Geneva, to join our restaurant team. The 200-seat restaurant is a self-service cafeteria with various food stations.

The Commis will directly be assisting the Chef de Partie. He/She will be preparing meal ingredients and assist with various kitchen duties. The successful candidate will employ its culinary and organisational skills to play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing our guest’s satisfaction. He/she will also have to ensure compliance with food safety and employment guidelines.

  • High school degree or equivalent required.
  • Fluent in French or English. Any other language is an advantage.
  • Awareness of Control of Substances of Hazardous to Health Regulations and chemical safety.
  • Previous culinary experience.
  • Experience of dangerous kitchen equipment such as knives
  • Previous experience in high volume and/or upscale restaurants a plus.
  • Previous experience preparing Italian cuisine a plus.
  • Experience working to Chef de Partie level in fresh food, busy kitchens.
  • Ability to deliver fresh food to high standards.
  • Ability to cope well under pressure.
  • Excellent personality and drive.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Following directions provided by the Chef de Partie.
  • Preparing meal ingredients which includes measuring, seasoning, washing, peeling and chopping vegetables and fruits.
  • Preparing basic sauces and condiments as directed by the Chef de Partie.
  • Receiving deliveries and verifying that all ordered items have been delivered and are of good quality.
  • Taking inventory of restaurant supplies and notifying the supervisor of low or depleted supplies.
  • Discarding all expired and spoiled food items stored in the stock rooms, refrigerators and freezers.
  • Performing basic cleaning duties and ensuring that workstations are properly sanitised.
  • Plating and presenting meal items as per the Chef de Partie’s guidelines.
  • Collaborating with the rest of the culinary team to ensure high-quality food and service.
  • Keeping the area of the kitchen safe and sanitary according to the Health, Safety, Fire, and Hygiene guidelines and procedures.
  • Improving food preparation methods based on feedback.
  • Assisting in other areas of the kitchen when required.
  • Attend any training that has been set up to aid your own personal development.
  • Ensuring high standards are consistently met and making sure your personal appearance and uniform are always in line with the required standards.
  • Possibility to collaborate in MSC’s test kitchen for shipboard recipes.VISA REQUIREMENTS (if any)
