Job Description
You work with the System Planning team to perform techno-economic optimisation of Power-to-X projects, guided by specific project assumptions from the project developers.
You develop and maintain software tools that support the optimisation efforts of ENERTRAG's System Planning team, ensuring they are effective and up to date.
You ensure code versioning, collaboration, and management using Git, following best practices for branching, merging, and pull requests.
You adhere to clean coding principles and participate in code reviews to maintain high software quality and consistency.
You identify performance bottlenecks and optimize code to improve efficiency and scalability.
You help to develop and extend new optimisation models, implementing them in a suitable programming language (e.g., Python).
You prepare and present results in a clear and comprehensible manner, using visualisation techniques to enhance understanding.
You write reports for internal reviews and decision-making, and conduct site inspections as needed.
Qualifications
You have completed a degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related field, with a specialization in applied mathematics (optimisation, operations research) or energy being a strong advantage.
You have at least 4 years of hands-on experience in software development, with advanced proficiency in Python and Git.
You have an understanding of energy economics and expertise in numerical optimisation (linear/non-linear programming).
You have relevant professional experience in energy system modelling (capacity expansion and production-cost modelling), or have gained experience in energy system modelling and energy economics during post-graduate studies.
You demonstrate a structured approach to work, strong teamwork abilities, and a high level of determination.
Experience with open energy modelling tools for electricity generation and transmission expansion planning, such as PyPSA, Balmorel, or Calliope, is a plus.
You are fluent in English and German a plus.
