Research Assistant (Doctoral Researcher)

The position is offered for a period of three years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (65 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 65 %).

Tasks:

  • scientific services in research and teaching
  • design and execution of a research project investigating the effects of climate change on ground-nesting wild bees, such as Colletes cunicularius and Andrena vaga
  • field experiments conducted at our research site near Marburg Open Forest, using 40 bee flight cages
  • presentation of research findings in team meetings and at scientific conferences
  • authoring and publishing peer-reviewed scientific articles
  • contributing to research-oriented BSc und MSc programs in the Deparment of Biology

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • MSc degree (or equivalent) in biology, ecology, environmental sciences, or a related field
  • strong knowledge of experimental research design and methods to realize the project (including ecological statistics using R)
  • ecological and taxonomic knowledge, especially with regard to bees, is an asset
  • excellent writing and presentation skills in English and good proficiency in German or a willingness to learn
  • ability to work independently with self-motivation and initiative
  • effective team player with strong collaboration skills

Disposition to own scientific qualification (e.g. a doctorate project in the area of animal ecology) is expected
