Our Profile
The Geological Institute of RWTH Aachen University offers basic and advanced teaching in the degree courses “Applied Geosciences”, “Georesource Management” and “Applied Geophysics”, and is involved in basic geoscientific research as well as research on industry-related, application-oriented issues. Current research topics include (process) sedimentology (clastics, evaporites, carbonates), stratigraphy, tectonics and sedimentation and 2D/3D seismic interpretation. Our institute is active in numerous national and international projects and is looking for reinforcement in the areas of teaching and research.
Your Profile
- PhD in Geosciences
- Experience in conducting structural geology, sedimentology, and/or application-oriented geophysical research projects
- Carbonate sedimentology/evaporite sedimentology expertise
- First experience in university teaching
- Good English proficiency
- Good proficiency in German, as Bachelor's degree programs are held in German
The applicant should have her/his own research ideas for the period of the next 3 years, the presentation of which (1 page) forms an important part of the application.
Your Duties and Responsibilities
- Carrying out and acquiring research projects; the opportunity to carry out independent research projects is given. Time is given for further qualification with the aim of a habilitation.
- Preparation and implementation of BSc and MSc courses in the fields of sedimentology and general geology with a focus on carbonates and evaporites, but also e.g. rock science, exogenous dynamics, facies science, mapping courses, excursions.
- The teaching obligation is 4 SWS per semester
- Participation in academic self-administration
- Productive publication activity
- Scientific curiosity, enjoyment of developing new research questions and university teaching
What We Offer
The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of 3 years.
The option to extend the contract for three further years is available.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.
